St. John the Baptist Cathedral in Montreal celebrated its feast day
Between June 18-20 St. John the Baptist Cathedral from Montreal celebrated its feast day. Like every year, priests and faithful celebrated the patron saint and protector, St. John, the Forerunner and the Baptist of the Lord. The two hierarchs of our Archdiocese, Archbishop Nicolae and Auxiliary Bishop Ioan Casian, were present on these feast days.
The celebration began Friday night with the Holy Unction service, served together with the two bishops and the local priests. Saturday, June 19, accompanied by Fr. Dean George Chisca, His Eminence Archbishop Nicolae visited the new Church of the Nativity of the Mother of God parish in Gatineau, QC. Afterwards it was visited the new property St. Matthew parish in Ottawa and the Small Blessing of the Water service was officiated for the blessing of the building that will temporary host the parish chapel for prayer. Saturday evening the great Vespers were served at St. John the Baptist Cathedral followed by the blessing of St. John the Baptist icon worked in mosaic at the church entrance.
Sunday morning the Divine Liturgy was served in the sobor of two bishops, five priests and a deacon. At the time of the sermon, His Eminence Archbishop Nicolae talked about the announcing event of the birth of St. John the Baptist and the teachings that every Christian should remember about this event. Fr. Dean George Chisca thanked to all present for the feast day con-celebration, and to those who worked for the decoration of the Cathedral.
A banquet concluded these feast days dedicated to St. John the Baptist, the patron of the Romanian Orthodox Cathedral in Montreal.
